Spotlighting North County artists Aaron Chang, Susan Wickstrand and Wade Koniakowsky

Most of us know how good it feels to step into the ocean, but funneling that feeling into something beautiful is a different kind of challenge. Meet three North County artists whose great gift is an eye for the ocean.

Aaron Chang

Aaron Chang is an award winning, internationally acclaimed artist whose artwork has appeared in hundreds of books and magazines. As a senior photographer for Surfing magazine for 25 years, Aaron Chang traveled to over 50 countries discovering new talent and surf breaks.

Currently, Chang is being considered for a new TV show titled Captured with Aaron Chang, which will take viewers around the globe and behind the scenes exploring the adventure of extreme photography.

Combining his love for both photography and surfing, Aaron Chang has begun creating photo-surfboard sculptures, some of which can be viewed at his Solana Beach and downtown San Diego art galleries.

In 2013, 2014, and 2015 Aaron Chang was voted “Best Artist” by Ranch and Coast magazine readers, and was named by the San Diego Tourism Authority in 2014 and 2015 as San Diego’s “Ambassador of the Arts”.

Currently residing in north San Diego County, he is a loving husband and father of two boys and, of course, an avid surfer. AaronChang.com

Wade Koniakowsky

When it comes to ocean-inspired artistry, Wade Koniakowsky is one of our best.

A painter by age 6 and a surfer before age 12, Koniakowsky has become internationally recognized for his tropical interpretations.

Currently showcased around the world, Wade Koniakowsky’s work also appears in 17 galleries extending from the East Coast to Hawaii. He has been a regular art contributor for ROXY events, and his designs appear on custom surfboards placed in Billabong stores nationwide. He owns the Ocean Art Gallery in the Solana Beach Cedros Design District. Koniakowsky.com

“I love what I do and have been very fortunate to have been able to be a full-time artist for over 25 years now.  I have an amazing list of collector’s from around the globe and most of my clients also seem to also love the outdoors, beach culture, Southern California, Hawaii, and travel as much as I do.” – Susan Wickstrand
