Revolution Bike Shop

Pedaling for a Purpose

Revolution Bike Shop Owner Joel Moody has been doing one thing exceedingly well since he first opened his doors over five years ago: Making each and every customer that comes into his shop a top priority.  A family-owned business, Revolution Bike Shop is no ordinary bicycle shop. Catering to cycling enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, this store sells just as much fun and happiness as it does bikes, parts and accessories. This award-winning business provides worldwide products and services with a local touch.  Whether you are a die-hard cyclist, a weekend warrior or anything in between, Revolution Bike Shop was designed with you in mind.

Owned by cyclists, run by cyclists and operating for cyclists, this is a destination bike shop and online business. Not only do they have an extensive collection of bikes, they also strive to offer the best prices on anything cycling related. This team is ready to price match, ensuring you will always get the best price while simultaneously experiencing the best in customer service.

Located in Solana Beach, Revolution Bike Shop has been rated as one of the best bicycle shops in the country by the National Bike Dealers Association, and the Union Tribune praised the store as the best bike shop of 2013. Most recently the store enjoyed the honor of being recognized as the best bike shop in the Southwest region by Competitor magazine. Formerly located in Leucadia, the shop moved to its current location four years ago. They have a modest 1,800 square feet of retail space. However, it’s not the size of the space that really matters, it’s the size of the hearts of all who work at Revolution Bike Shop that counts.

“We are known for the superior service we provide,” emphasizes Moody.  “We genuinely care about our customers.”

Providing premium and up-to-date products and services is the focus of this business, but it also keeps its finger on the pulse of the community at large. Moody and his team are go-givers at heart and constantly strive to give back to the community and beyond by their involvement in numerous charitable causes and events.

Three organizations that hold a special place in the hearts of Moody’s team include Pedal the Cause (, Pedaling for Parkinson’s ( and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (

Pedal the Cause is a non-profit dedicated to raising money for cancer research. Pedaling for Parkinson’s was established to advance the understanding of how physical activity affects the motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is “the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.”

In addition to wanting to give back to the community that has so strongly supported them over the years, the shop’s involvement with these events also stems from personal experience with related health issues.  In addition to seeing his dad struggle with cancer, Moody has undergone four surgeries for melanoma and while currently in good health, he undergoes routine PET scans and additional procedures to remove the cancer as it is found.  Additionally, Moody’s top bike mechanic, Dan Rock, an icon in the local bicycle circuit known for his mechanical prowess, sustained a serious illness subsequent to a mosquito bite a couple of years ago and was the beneficiary of a fund to cover his medical expenses that was set up by the local community comprised of many people who admire and respect him, not only for his work, but for who he is. Now at age 60, Rock is in phenomenal health and experiencing no setbacks.

Through annual events conducted by the organizations they support, Revolution Bike Shop opens up its 20,000-square-foot parking lot as a rest stop for the Pedal the Cause riders, offering water, refreshments, discounts and gift bags to participants. During the Pedaling for Parkinson’s event, they extend their normal operating hours to accommodate the riders that start and finish the event in the store’s parking lot, as well as provide numerous vendor booths. For the Leukemia and Lymphoma event, the store acts as a host and rest stop for the riders. For each event, Revolution Bike Shop stands at the ready to provide anything the riders might need.
