MAKE A BEELINE FOR BEESALT BALCONY

Just upstairs from local favorite Prepkitchen, Beesalt Balcony is a new chef-driven restaurant in Del Mar with a “peek-a-boo” view of the ocean. The menu features Mediterranean flavors with a focus on Greek, Italian, seafood and locally grown farm-to-table produce. Our favorite is the Beesalt Salad! Wine and bottled beer will be sold and will feature locally produced brands along with award winning global wines. The décor is a lovely relaxed seaside chic. Enjoy the ocean views from their large covered second floor balcony. Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Friday, open all day weekends from 11.30 a.m. BeesaltBalcony.com

DEL MAR CITY COUNCIL
BANS PLASTIC BAGS

The Del Mar City Council voted unanimously to ban single-use plastic carryout bags. Several county cities, such as Encinitas and Solana Beach, have already implemented similar plastic bag bans. The reasoning behind the ban centers on the environmental impact of plastic bags, according to the city’s Sustainability Committee. However, the proposed ban would not be applicable to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The city of Del Mar will undergo a six-month phased implementation for retail establishments and a one-year phased implementation for restaurants and the Del Mar Farmers Market. Phase 1, for retail spaces, will go into effect on October 6, 2016. For restaurants and farmers markets, the ban will go into effect April 6, 2017. DelMar.ca.us

LA JOLLA SYMPHONY
AND CHORUS PRESENTS

David Chase conducts the 100-voice La Jolla Symphony Chorus and soloists in two performances of a program of large-scale sacred works for a cappella chorus and works for chorus with organ accompaniment (organist Jared Jacobson). The repertoire spans several centuries and a variety of choral styles, including rarely performed works and a performance of Alice Parker’s An American Kedushah in celebration of the legendary composer’s 90th birthday year, featuring mezzo-soprano Rebecca Ramirez and tenor Myles Mayfield. Guest conductor Rodrigo Ruiz conducts the La Jolla Symphony orchestra in Shostakovich’s saucy Symphony No. 9 and Tchaikovsky’s fiery Symphony No. 4 — one of the most popular symphonies of all time! In between, violist Andrea Fortier, 2014 Young Artists Winner, performs Bela Bartok’s valedictory Viola Concerto in her debut appearance with the orchestra. LaJollaSymphony.com
