Earth Day Activities For All 9

Earth Day, celebrated April 22, is devoted to environmental awareness, and giving a little extra love to the flora and fauna around us. A time to celebrate the planet we live on, and to learn about how we can work together to protect and restore it. But passion for our planet just can’t be confined to a single day so celebrations and events take place all month long. Take your family and friends out to celebrate Earth Month with these fun events and activities around Del Mar and beyond!

Earth Day Paddle Out

Luxury hotel and spa L’Auberge Del Mar is holding its fourth annual Earth Day Paddle Out to raise awareness of ocean conservation – a cause near and dear to the hearts of many San Diegans. We all want to keep the Pacific blue and beautiful, and to preserve the many delicate ecosystems that depend upon it. Bring a surfboard, boogie board or paddleboard (or arrange to rent one on site) and paddle out into the surf. This event is open to guests of the hotel and locals alike, and will include an ocean dedication, surf session and a light reception. LaubergeDelMar.com

Del Mar Foundation Beach Clean Up

Keep your local beaches beautiful by participating in a beach cleanup! The Del Mar Foundation will co-host its annual Earth Day Beach Clean-Up with the Rotary Club and L’Auberge Del Mar. The event will kick off with a guest speaker from Nature and Culture International, and light refreshments before handing out tongs, bags and gloves and getting down to work. The Del Mar Foundation’s Earth Day Beach Clean-Up will be held Sunday, April 24 from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. at the Powerhouse Community Center. If you’re busy that Sunday, there are plenty of other opportunities to beautify our local beaches during Earth Month and all year-round. San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love a Clean San Diego will hold several cleanup days. CleanSD.org and SDCoastKeeper.org
