Solana Beach for the Day 11

Take the hustle and bustle out of your Holiday Shopping by spending the day in our neighbor to the north – Beautiful Solana Beach. Come early and explore – drive, walk, or better yet ride your bike since it’s so close! Solana Beach offers free parking city-wide and the Train Station is centrally located to the beach and local shopping.

Once you arrive, we recommend strolling two miles of unspoiled beach, which LA Times voted as ‘Southern California’s friendliest beach’ but chances are you’ve already expereienced that friendly vibe if you’ve been in town recently. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at Beach Grass Café, Curious Fork, Java Depot or T’s Cafe located right on Highway 101. Spend a few hours perusing the hidden retail gems there, which are all within walking distance.

Walking around, you will find beautiful artwork on the sidewalks and along the Coastal Rail Trail. Browse the unique shops on Cedros Avenue – Sea Breeze Mercantile, La Femme Chic, Hand Crafted, The David Alan Collection, Strawberry Intimates, Aaron Chang, Cokas Diko, Solana Beach Art and Frame, Temecula Olive Oil Co., Satori Designs, Carruth Cellars – you will be spoilt for choice!

Wander up the road just a bit to the Solana Beach Towne Centre, where you will find exceptionally fun and creative shops. Wax & Whimsy brings you clothing, jewelry, candles and fun gifts (always something new in stock) and around the corner is Village Gifts and Engraving offering beautiful keepsake items that are perfect holiday mementos.

If you are taking a break, pick up a tasty sandwich from Which Wich for a picnic at the Fletcher Cove Community Park that has artistic tabletops overlooking the Pacific Ocean along with breathtaking views and beautiful sunsets. For dinner, enjoy a fun cocktail and dine at one of the many exceptional restaurants in the area.

Find authentic Mexican cuisine at Alfonso’s of La Jolla, nouveau Italian specialties at Solana Beach Crush or head for a taste of Local Craft beers at SD Beerworks. If you are looking for the locals, find them hanging out at Tidewater Tavern, enjoying award-winning fare at Pamplemousse Grille, and enjoy amazing Thai food at Similan Thai.

Join the fun at the Pillbox Tavern and sample Chef Shelly’s famous sauces. Treat yourself to the best sushi at Station Sushi, find the freshest seafood at The Fish Market and who can resist arguably one of the best dining experiences in North County at Red Tracton’s? For a special evening to remember, catch a show at the Belly Up.

Plan on dining next door at the Wild Note Café or visit the North Coast Repertory Theatre and watch one of their live theatrical performances. Finish your evening with a quick stop at the Saddle Bar. Better yet, extend your stay a night or two in one of their beautiful hotels – The Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriott or Winner’s Circle Resort – to turn your day trip into a quick weekend getaway!
