October Fun at Flower Hill Promenade

Sunday Cinema at Flower Child includes classic flicks with a fall flavor while you dine on fabulous healthy fare on the main patio every Sunday evening. Lemonade and popcorn served with access to wine and tasty cheese plates from Venissimo Cheese. On October 31, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., enjoy Halloween Trick-or-Treating – play dress up with the family and promenade through the entire center to fill up on treats from all participating shops. For the Starbucks Critter Costume Contest, get your pooch all costumed up and bring them down to Starbucks for a chance at a grand puppy-prize.

New Pacific Highlands Ranch Community Park breaks ground

The Pacific Highlands Ranch Community Park celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony and the new 13 acre-park with recreation center is expected to open in September 2018 on Village Center Loop Road, a central, walkable location between Canyon Crest Academy and Pacific Trails Middle School, across from the Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch. The park will have a large, five-acre lit turf field that can accommodate a variety of sports from baseball to rugby, a spacious recreation center that can host classes, camps and community events, outdoor basketball courts, and more.

Party Like A Star at San Diego International Film Festival

From the opening night red carpet to glamorous star studded tributes to the Friday Night Party with a Purpose, the SDiFF provides a full schedule of studio premieres, independent films, intimate discussions with filmmakers and great parties! Get in on all the action October 4-8, with VIP, Fest and Day Pass options available. Tonya Mantooth (Executive and Artistic Director) and Dale Strack (Chairman of the Board) took over the festival four years ago – and in that time, have grown the attendees from 3,000 to 25,000.

Union Kitchen & 
Tap Expanding

After much push-back from the city to expand Union Kitchen & Tap’s patio at their Encinitas location, the restaurant has officially been granted permission to move forward with their plan that will enable patio seating in close vicinity to their on-site garden. The new outdoor dining section will hold up to 50 additional guests, and will close nightly by 10 p.m. After spending months revising the initial proposal to meet local ordinance standards, the restaurant is looking forward to transforming their currently vacant patio into an alfresco dining space suited to sunny San Diego.

DRIVE AutoCare is proud to announce the promotion of Hannah (Marquardt) Mann to Service Manager at their 128 N. Cedros Avenue, Solana Beach location. With this promotion, this location is now the only woman-managed auto repair facility in San Diego County. Hannah will be managing this location in partnership with Kelly Johnson, formerly of Rancho Santa Fe Motors & Fairbanks Ranch Mobil, who joined DRIVE AutoCare last October. The all-woman team is complete with the addition of their newest administrator, Bridget Trent.

Surf Lessons for 
Four-Legged Friends

Cowabarka! Teach your dog to hang eight while supporting orphan animals – Learn to teach your dog how to surf with experienced instruction from the SoCal Surf Dogs Club. After 20 minutes of group learning on land, you and your dog will be paired up with a SoCal Surf Dogs instructor to try out the waves. Lesson includes use of a SUP or surfboard, canine life vest, instruction by a SoCal Surf Dogs member, and volunteers to help retrieve your dog and board. 100 percent of the registration fee benefits pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Festival Week

The Barn at the Beach will be a unique oceanfront venue providing a dramatic gathering place for special events celebrating the internationally acclaimed horseracing event. The City of Del Mar, the Del Mar Village Association, the Breeders’ Cup Ltd., Breeders’ Cup Host Committee, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and San Diego Tourism Authority have collaborated to make the temporary structure for the festival week a reality. Highlights of public events include the kickoff 5K Jake’s Beach Fun Run on Saturday, October 28; Post-Position Draw Party on Monday, October 30.
